My reaction was apathy, but there were no new stains on the parking lot. Suicide seemed a bit overdramatic in my situation. Both my mother and father were unable to receive any augmentation; I was damned from birth. They didn't bother to have my nerves checked as a child, they knew, and so did I, that their hell had become mine. I needed to hear the facts from a doctor though. There was an infinitesimal chance that the genetic lottery would turn in my favor and I could receive the grand prize of a normal life. It was worth a shot, but I'm not that lucky. I stood up and extended my hand to the doctor, who shook it cautiously, and said goodbye.

I like how this could suggest the person still has a conscience or a soul or something. Perhaps they were protecting someone and murdered the other to do it. Even though they did it for a reason, and a good one at that, killing a person can be traumatising indeed...

At least, that's how I interpret it.
